Katie Schofield

History

Katie is a qualified and experienced counsellor who has over 7 years’ experience supporting adolescents and adults with autism, learning difficulties, ADHD and mental health difficulties. She completed a BSc Honours degree in Psychology and Clinical Psychology at the University of Lincoln, and has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and a Masters in Counselling at York St John University. For her Masters, she completed a year-long research project where she explored transgender clients’ experiences of their therapeutic relationships with their counsellors. This research project and further training has enabled Katie to develop a detailed understanding of the issues that the LGBT+ community face and the impact this has on mental health.

I take a non-medicalised view of emotional distress and believe that distress is a normal response to adverse experiences and the types of environments we live/lived in. I believe that people are the expert of themselves and help people gain self-awareness and a sense of empowerment to develop healthy ways to overcome life’s challenges and destructive patterns”.
